Seth created Monkey Wrench Productions as no-nonsense production sales outlet for the entertainment industry. Monkey Wrench is a culmination of Seth’s knowledge from working at the regional and nation level offering everything from gaff tape, to installing the most energy efficient lighting system in MN. Monkey Wrench caters to a very loyal client base around the world that appreciate Seth’s unique style of technical sales and honesty with a twist of humor.

Prior to Monkey Wrench, Seth was a service and install technician where he picked up factory certifications for High End Systems, Vari-Lite, Martin, Color Kinetics and ETC. He was then brought on board at Clearwing Arizona to run their service and sales departments as well build their first one-stop production service center and retail location for anything entertainment. He and his wife decided a change of climate was in order and moved to Minneapolis (just a bit cooler) and he started work for Creative Stage Lighting, a wholesale lighting company, where he managed an 8 state territory with over 1500 active dealers.

When he’s not monkeying around Seth likes to spend time traveling with his wife, playing lacrosse and hockey, and raising and breeding service dogs and for Can Do Canines.

Although he started onstage in high school, John found that he much preferred the rush of performance from behind the console. During his years at The College of Wooster the opportunities to design were plentiful and his design professor, the late Jerry Harris, wholly-supported John’s early attempts at both scenic and lighting designs for studio productions. By his junior year, John was lighting for the main stage, the black box, and at the open stage chapel for music, theatre and dance depts, and outside companies simultaneously. This knack for managing multiple facilities continued with John’s first gig in the real world as both faculty production manager for Cleveland Heights High School (yes faculty - he got secondary ed certification at Woo – thanks Mom!) while also serving as staff technical director for Cleveland State’s Dept of Theatre(a big thanks to the great Gene Hare). That led to two series of summers as TD, then master electrician, then production manager and resident LD for Cain Park Theatres in Cleveland Heights. While there John met LD Tom Skelton when he came thru the park with Ohio Ballet. That fall he left the Heights to go on the road with the ballet and this incredible lighting designer, whose approach to lighting the stage and cueing each piece were both ground-breaking and inspirational to so many lighting designers in his wake. Those next five years assisting Tom for Ohio Ballet, Cleveland Opera, the Great Lakes Theatre Festival, and Cleveland Ballet, provided the most inspirational and comprehensive lighting education one could hope for…while making an income! The business side of all these part time connections to major arts companies formed the base for John Ebert and Associates LLC to design, sell, rent, and provide crew for a decade of lighting fun through the early 90s.

With two babies at home John came off the road for another decade while managing the sales and product development sides of a family manufacturing company. Evans Industries, Inc. made earseals for a wide variety of headset manufacturers and was a great situation to develop skills in managing a dealer network across a broad range of product interests. In the fall of 2000, Evans opened a plant in Tijuana, Mexico and John was the lucky choice to live in San Diego for weeks at a time to maintain the assembly line proficiency and product quality. What a great place to learn international sales and team management skills…without speaking Spanish! In 2005 John returned to entertainment lighting full time as rental & production manager for North Coast Theatrical in Akron, OH. He then took on the world as Midwest and International Dealer Sales Manager for Creative Stage Lighting of upstate NY. With over 500 dealers in eight states and another 150 around the world, John’s years with Creative allowed fantastic involvement with so many industry contacts and great projects. Having created a friendship with fellow regional manager Seth, John was happy to join Monkey Wrench Productions in 2010.

John is still running in circles around Akron, OH, where he lives with his fiancé, Joan O’Connor, also keeping him close to his beautiful children, Rachel and Dan. He is constantly humbled by the opportunities in keeping multiple theatres lit while providing gear and monkey wrench wisdom to so many more!
